When it comes to metal materials used for rainwater catchment in construction, it can be difficult to keep track of which are compatible and which arent.
MetalMettle is a nifty little tool to help make things easier!
By selecting the upstream and downstream water catchment materials, you get a quick answer on whether they are compatible in a drainage arrangement or direct contact.
For instance, prepainted steel in direct contact with stainless steel is not a good idea. Galvanic corrosion can run rampant and cause all sorts of problems.
Similarly, a prepainted steel draining into galvanised (Zn coated steel) gutters is not a good idea. That can result in an inert catchment scenario and cause rapid corrosion of the gutter.
This is a handy reference tool, but for specific advice contact your local building supplies specialist.
